Adam Rybicki, 52, from Russell Rise, Luton, admitted causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.

Rybicki was also banned from driving for two years by Judge Peter Davies.

During an earlier hearing, Polish national Rybicki told the court he was "at a loss" to explain why he had been driving on the wrong side of the road.

Sentencing him, Judge Davies said: "The collision that occurred that morning was catastrophic.

"Nothing I say, nor any sentence I can pass can hope to compensate the loss of a priceless human life."
