About Jon
Jon's arrival on American shores marks the continuation of a long and distinguished career at the BBC but he's no stranger to Washington, having covered several US elections. And no stranger to the US either, having covered Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and recently ridden a Harley Davidson down the West coast - that wasn't work though!
His new role as North America editor comes after a long stint of being one of the lead news anchors in London, presenting on the BBC News Channel, The Politics Show and more recently Global with Jon Sopel. Jon has also presented from around the world on major events - from New York on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Rome for the installation of the new Pope, South Africa for the funeral of Nelson Mandela, India on their recent elections, and from conflicts in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan. But now he returns to the field to share his thoughts on events in North America.
